Some of the construction industry's largest and most recognizable companies are found in the design segment,
including Bechtel, Fluor Corporation and Jacobs Engineering.
Merger and acquisition activity is steady among engineering firms, but has been more active among environmental
firms. Both strategic and financial buyers have been extremely busy in this area as the continued global
emphasis on environmental issues drives growth. Unlike many other areas of the construction industry,
environmental services companies are attractive for their recurring revenue streams from on-going environmental
studies and assessment, in addition to traditional construction and remediation services.
